Geography

Our institution Banipur Mahila Mahavidyalaya was established in the year 1999 and the Department of Geography has been part of the institution since 2017. We have started Geography as B. Sc. General course with combination of science subjects. In 2018 it is converted to B.Sc. CBCS General Course with combination of science subjects as per rules and regulations. In the recent academic year this subject is running as B.A. and B.Sc. CBCS General Course. We are trying to start Geography as B.Sc. and B.A. Honors CBCS course in the up next academic sessions.
Our Department had started its journey with three Guest Lectures Mr. Durjoy Pramanik, Ms. Banhisikha Dey and Ms. Labani Sarkar. At present the department has four State Aided College Teachers. The teachers are devoted to the development of the students not only for higher education but also of their moral character.
Geography is a Theoretical and Practical based subject. Our lab facility also enhanced the subject depth. According to our syllabus, educational excursion is a part of our subject and it helps to increase our student’s knowledge and it plays a key role to understand our subject. Our department usually conduct educational excursion for Semester-VI (General) students in every year.
In our department Resource persons are invited to deliver special lecture (Extension lectures) in every semester for the students.
In every semester we arrange students seminar, we celebrates the special days related to the subject. Occasionally we arranged departmental seminar and workshop. The department has its own magazine, “GEOGRAPHIA” which is published annually.
The mission of the department is to develop its students in way so that they are capable of discovering and exploring the relationship between man and environment.
The vision of the Department is to motivate and encourage students to improve
themselves not only educationally but also in improving the environment from a geographical perspective.
