Banipur Mahila Mahavidyalaya, situated in Banipur, North 24 Parganas, is an undergraduate institution for women.Banipur Mahila Mahavidyalaya, the first ever women’s college, across the sub-divisions of Barasat Sadar, Bongaon and Basirhat, was established in 1999 to cater to the higher educational needs of the regional people. Although there were many colleges in the region, the people were deprived of an all-woman College to choose from. The desire of the founders was to impart education to women as well as to make them self-sufficient in every sphere of life in order to enable them to develop a well-rounded personality. The main constraints in this respect were the conservative mindsets of the people of this region, which snuffed out many bright academic careers at an early age and forced their potential holders into familial relationships. The College aims to lead women towards empowerment by intertwining academic excellence with all-rounded development.
The role of women in today's world is varied and has come a long way since last century. They, of late, can move about and work easily in whichever area they like, mostly without much adversity. Be it in the educational sector, administration, politics, business or household chores-women seem to stand on the pedestal of everything around them. The world treats men, women, and every gender on the same wavelength, at least in farming the laws. However, the scenario of India narrates a different story. Women are, in formidable numbers, subjected to domestic violence, and tortures of various kinds assaults both physical and mental, and with this, the curse of female infanticide child marriage dowry death, and honor killing are also prevalent in society.
